Chiapas, primera Constitución el mundo en incluir los Objetivos del Milenio
5 Millennium Goal
Improve Maternal Health
In July 2009 Governor Juan Sabines Guerrero gave the UN coordinator Official newspaper of Chiapas where it publishes the reform initiative that makes the first state Chiapas in the world to include in its constitution the obligation of the state government and the City Council to meet the Millennium Development Goals. In the Goal 5 was determined to 2015 goal to reduce maternal mortality by three quarters parties in relation to 1990.
Of the disease burden that weighs on women, the highest proportion with respect to its role in reproduction. with If tare universal access to reproductive health services - including family planning , care during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period and obstetric care emergency-would reduce unwanted pregnancies, abortions performed in poor conditions and maternal deaths, ie save the lives of many women and their children.
It should be emphasized that the use of contraceptives is extremely low in the municipality of San Cristobal de las Casas where only 20.7% of women reported having used a contraceptive method in the past year.
There are also serious problems with women's access to contraception, as only 41.2% of simulated users were provided with information on contraception and only 10.5% gave the option to draw appointment to position the implant or IUD, also consider alarming that 100% of users simulations do not provide the requested method and simulated user that no condoms provided you go to the health unit.
We found a low proportion of trained health personnel in family planning (only 50% have received specific training on contraception), and a possible shortage of contraceptives (80% of providers indicate shortage).
As the organizations gathered here: Network for Sexual and Reproductive Rights in Mexico (ddser), Colectivo Feminista Mercedes Olivera (COFEM), Health Network Women's Latin American and Caribbean, Point, New compatible ac Codices and Marie Stopes, we encourage public institutions involved in reproductive health care and family planning supplies of Chiapas, with the intention of assisting in the achievement the goals of the Millennium Development Goals included in the State Constitution, the following:
4 Promote a mass distribution of contraceptive methods.
4 Promote campaigns specific information for the indigenous population, appropriate to their context and language
4 Ensure that each unit of Health has prepared health personnel in family planning.
4 Train all / as the / as providers / service as health (including nurses and promoters) in the placement of the implant and vasectomy.
4 investigate possible coercion to perform tubal ligation or the motivations for using long-term methods.
4 Ensure that each health unit will have broad range of contraceptive methods (both short and long term) to meet the needs of users / os.
4 Regarding infrastructure, ensure that there s staff in the health units to meet the needs of family planning as well as a specific area for this purpose.
4 Having quantities of contraceptive methods and an extra percentage (10% to 20%) commensurate with the population reproductive age and potential new users / as, increase the supply of injectables, implants, IUDs and pills.
4 Ensure adequate distribution of supplies of contraceptives.
4 ensure that everyone as users or applicants are attended Family Planning / as method regardless of the type requested, provide information, regardless of not meeting the health unit and without imposing barriers administrative and open a file.
4 Include the male population distribution strategies and awareness of family planning.
4 strengthen training and awareness of nurses, since they are the largest recipients of family planning applicants.
